In November 2016, Chloë and Oliver outgrew their 680-square-metre Adelaide block, a mini homestead packed with chooks, dogs, and cats. With a young daughter and plans for a growing family, they dreamt of a farm to call home. For example, they spent 12 months exploring properties within 200km of Adelaide, seeking a place with potential. By mid-2017, they weighed the pros and cons of a tree change, deciding a rural lifestyle was the way to go.

While listing their Adelaide home for sale, the couple found their perfect farm near Hallett, right at the edge of their search radius. This Mid North gem offered endless possibilities for a farm stay in South Australia. After negotiations, they locked in the purchase, ready to embrace country life. Building a Self-Sufficient Farm
Settling into Cartapo Creek, Chloë and Oliver dove into rural life. They traded labour with neighbours for sheep and grain, starting a flock for pasture management and income. Next, they welcomed a pregnant Jersey cow, learning to milk and make cheese via YouTube. For instance, their Berkshire pigs, chosen for tasty meat, soon multiplied, supplying pork alongside lamb and beef. This self-sufficient setup laid the foundation for a unique Hallett farm stay.
